Did you know that Alpine Radio has an RPH reading service? RPH Radio reading is the on-air live reading of newspapers, magazines and other publications that otherwise might be inaccessible to people with vision-impairment, blindness or other print disability. This valuable community service provides access to information for people who might otherwise be unable to access it.

Alpine Radio presents two RPH programs: Helen McDougall hosts RPH on Wednesdays from 2pm to 3pm and Nick Brown hosts RPH on Thursdays from 7pm to 8pm. We have a committed band of volunteers who read on RPH, bringing hand-picked articles of interest to you each week.

Reading for radio involves skills and knowledge that are common to all radio programs, as well as some that are specific to the program requirements of broadcasting to people with print disabilities. What better opportunity then, to be invited to participate in training that will help us develop our skills in presenting a radio reading program as part of the station's programming?

On Sunday 14th June, Alpine Radio presenters and volunteers were able to attend online training through the Community Media Training Organisation (CMTO).  The session was free for those participating, as the costs are covered in Alpine Radio’s current grant round from Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF).

The session was facilitated by Lex Marinos an actor, director, writer and teacher with a wealth of experience in the arts/entertainment industry. Thank you Lex and Mikaela from CMTO; we are grateful for the opportunity and it has given us new knowledge and ideas to help us deliver our radio reading programming.

Radio reading is a great entry point into community radio. Contact the Station Manager if you are interested in joining the team!
